CMIE predicts 9.4% Growth

The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) has stated in its monthly report that the Indian economy would continue to register a strong, over nine per cent growth in FY 2009. CMIE said, "We had predicted a growth of 9.1 per cent in our first forecast in February 2008, which was revised up to 9.5 per cent in June 2008. We now believe that the economy would grow by 9.4 per cent in FY 09." Earlier, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had predicted that the real gross domestic product (GDP) would see a growth of 8-8.5 per cent in FY 2009. The Economic Advisory Council of the Prime Minister (EAC), on the other hand, had projected that the economy would grow by 7.7 per cent.

TCS and Infy megavendors!

India's top IT services companies, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Infosys Technologies and Wipro Technologies will emerge as the next generation of IT service megavendors, according to Gartner, Inc. These vendors are increasingly being considered for strategic service deals, and will augment or in some cases, replace today's acknowledged megavendors by revenue - IBM Global Services, Accenture and EDS - in this space by 2011.

JP Asso. investing plan

Jaiprakash Associates will be investing US$ 3.03 billion in four projects in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh (MP). The company has signed four MOUs with the Madhya Pradesh Government for the development of two cement manufacturing units, an aluminium production factory and a power plant. According to an official release, the cement units will be set up in Satna and Amarpatan with a capacity for producing five million tonnes cement, with an investment of US$ 466.74 million for each unit.

Dell's $1bn in India

Dell Inc, the world's second-largest personal computer maker, expects to clock revenue of $1 billion from India by next year. The company’s run rate for this year is $800 million while it clocked $700 million in revenue last year. “India is the fastest growing market for us, though we are seeing huge growth in other emerging economies like China, Brazil and Russia,” said Michael Dell, chief executive, Dell Inc, on the sidelines of the launch of Dell's Latitude E series and Precision notebooks in India on Wednesday.

WiMAX in India

The WiMAX Forum has projected that India will have more than 27.5 million WiMAX subscribers by 2012, accounting for almost 20 per cent of the global WiMAX subscriber base. The WiMAX Forum Worldwide Subscriber and User Forecast studies the growth of WiMAX service providers, equipment vendors, content developers and subscribers across the world.
